  2. I teach all of our k - 2 students in our science lab at school. I plan to use the blog I created in class to keep our parents informed of all the wonderful things we are doing in the lab. I plan on using the LCD projector and sharing the blog with the students. I also am so glad that we learned how to use google reader so I can get blog updates that way. I now know how to subscribe to various blogs. I also would like to use Mind42 as a mapping tool with the students. The students are too young to do it themselves.
Is this sufficient or should we e-mail these answers to you as well in order to receive tech credit? Thanks so much! I learned a lot!

  3. I plan to use my blog that I created to give parents a way to communicate with me and to see what is happening in our class. with teaching Kindgarten, I feel this will be a good beginning for me. I am also interested in learning and researching more about Mind42. I think it would work well in my reading groups. I learned alot in the class and am looking forward to using it with my parents and students.

  8. The technology information that I gathered from your workshop was very informative and exciting. I know that technology is definitely one thing that motivates my students, so anything that I implement will be beneficial to their desire to learn. I want to add to my blog that I created and show it to the students so that they can interact on it. The parents will also be informed that it exists and encouraged to interact on it. I also want to add photos for students to respond to from work that we are doing in our classroom. I would love to show my students other first grade blogs so that we can learn from other first grade students. I also found some songs on YouTube to use for teaching content area objectives. This will be great for integrating music, technology, into content areas. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with me. You are an energetic and encouraging presenter.

  9. Thank you, Jayson, for a fun and informative session. I like to think that I keep up with technology but the more I learn it seems the more behind I get!!!! I have use wiki for a book discussion about the book Entertaining and Elephant. The response has been what you might expect…the teachers that have embraced technology have responded with enthusiasm and the teachers that are still apprehensive about using technology have danced around the edges. We continue to post questions…the idea was to get teachers to respond and then perhaps they would move the idea into their classrooms. Another way that I will use a wiki is to collect ideas, suggestions and resources to update our pacing guides for Brunswick County. We have worked to build 21st century classrooms so I’m hoping that using the web for more efficient communication will not be difficult. Thanks again for all the great ideas….like I said just when you think you know something…there are always great new ideas!!! I love that I can now save you tube…I have never completely trusted the Internet to work exactly when I need it to!! The afternoon session was great!!!

  10. I teach Pre-K children with special needs. SO...as far as using any of the new technology info in my classroom I think where I will begin is with the blog I created. I think that it will be a great way to communicate with parents and show them what we do in the classroom. I need a lot of practice with all of the other info. you taught us but I think there will be a place for youtube in my classroom in the near future. I found a few songs that I thought were pretty appropriate and could enhance our theme for the month. Plus, it is a great way to show the children that there are other things to do on the computer besides play games or watch videos! The session was awesome!! You did a great job getting me interested in all that tech stuff! I am pretty clueless when it comes to any of it and now, although i am still pretty clueless, i have a few more tools to start practicing on and hopefully using! I will probably start with Google Earth to show the kids places they are familiar with in a very different way!
Thanks again for all the info!

  11. We did not cover Google Earth, but it is a fantastic way to anchor students to a location. Plus with Google Sky and Mars, your lessons are literally out of this world (bad pun I know).

  13. I enjoyed the afternoon session. Learning about collaborative classroom tools was fun and I can’t wait to utilize the ideas you shared. Brunswick County Curriculum Specialists are currently using Google docs to keep track of pacing guide questions or suggestions that have been made through-out the year. Since this session I have set up a wiki to collect information and suggestions from the high school math teachers on pacing guide revisions. This will provide our teachers with the opportunity to have input into the planning process and use technology to do so. I also think a wiki would be a good way to share materials throughout the county. Thanks for the great ideas!

  15. What a great learning experience this class was! I’m a preschool teacher and many of my kids have special needs. Some of my students have enjoyed studying topics on the internet and I’ll have to explore the functions of SKYPE and perhaps they would enjoy using that tool to communicate with other classrooms within our school . Some also enjoy videos or learning games and I will use the tools I learned about to expand these data bases and get new ideas. I've done Twitter and have found some interesting autism connections, guess Facebook is next! I really enjoyed learning how to start a blog and will continue to explore that and try savevid and zamzar to explore options of putting video on my blog. I also have subscribed to many RSS feeds which I look at every day, love that.
Mind42.com and ning.com are sites that are new to me and I have found several preschool teachers using the web for various experiences and plan to explore these sites more. Learning about wikispaces was eye opening and as in the case with many of these sites, time seems to be an issue. It’s fun to explore but it will be a challenge to figure out which applications will be worth the time and effort, but I’m glad I have more knowledge about it! I feel my time will best be spent learning from and communicating with other professionals. As I feel more comfortable perhaps I can incorporate a blog for my class parents for next year—I think that is doable and would be enjoyable. Thanks for a great class!

  17. I am still in the planning stages using the tools with my students. However, I am really excited about being able to use savevid and zamzar to download and send Youtube videos for classroom use. Until now I have been blocked from using You Tube in my school. This will open many doors for me to begin using the videos. I am also very interested in using gmail more. I already had a gmail account, however, I didn't know how much it had to offer me. Thanks for showing us some the extras. I think I am most excited about showing my daughter who is 11 how easy it is going to be for her to set up a blog for her travels this summer. This will help her to document her travels to France with her grandparents and update her mother daily as well. I just had no idea how easy it was to set up. (and no I wasn't invited to go! or I would have my own blog about France) I am also in the process of adding RSS feeds and have found this very helpful and timesaving. Thank you so much for the workshop it was very informative.

  18. I am still in the shock and awe stage of technology as I explore the many tools you introduced to me. I throughly enjoyed our session and I am excitied about having the ability to use savevid and zamzar to download videos from You Tube for classroom use. I do a monthly author study and this enables me to bring authors such as Eric Carle to "life"
and share him with my first graders. The computer captures my students attention and enhances retention making this a valuable teaching tool. I was not aware of the many educational video oppurtunities offered by You Tube until exploring the site after our session. I will continue to explore gmail as well and all of the resources it provides. Just from reading this blog site I have learned about Google Earth. Thank you for increasing my technology awareness and I definitely plan to use these tools in my classroom.

  19. I am still at awe at what technology we covered in the afternoon session! Technology is one of the most powerful tools that educators have to connect students to the real world of knowledge.Until this workshop, I had never blogged before!! I have blogged several times since then to our CSS in BCS to invite them to a Patricia Gregory EOG Reading Strategies Workshop on Friday, April 24th at Lincoln Elementary School. Several of the CSS and a few teachers came to the workshop. Hopefully, we can get a network going to communicate curriculum ideas and information for next year.I am still exploring many of the resources that you covered. I would like to get proficient with utilizing some of these resources before sharing them with our teachers. I can see a great impact these can have in education. Thanks for an impressive and knowledgeable workshop!

  20. I teach 2nd grade so I am trying to "water down" some of this so that I can successfully use this in lessons. I especially loved the Mind42 and Google doc technologies so my planning team and I can collaborate as we plan! If we get ideas in the evenings, weekends, or summers, we can collaborate in this way. I want to use these with my students too as we brainstorm ideas about lessons we are doing. I have been asked by many why I do not have a facebook account and plan to do that as well. This is a good tool for parents as well as the blog. It was all so very useful and overwhelming at the same time so I need to process it over the summer!! You did a great job!

  21. Thank you everyone for your comments. A big kudos for trying new things and being willing to embrace some of these new technologies. If you ever need any advice or want a longer workshop, please let me know. I will make sure those who posted get the CEUs. Best of luck!

  22. I am new at all this technology stuff so it was quite overwhelming! BUT, my partner teacher and I got some great ideas to process over the summer as we plan for the new school year next year. I like the blog because it is simple to use. I can see me using this as a classroom webpage. The students and their families could benefit from it if they "forget" homework or special events.

  23. well better late than never right?? I am planning on using the blogger as a weekly journal to reflect onwhat we have llearned throughout the week. I fear that I woudl only have a few parents interested in getting info off of it so I would rather knwo that what I am putting effort in is actually something thte kid scan see and experience themselves.
